Húseyjarkvísl River Fishing

The Húseyjarkvísl is one of Iceland’s few rivers offering high-quality fishing for both salmon and sea trout. This small northern river is known for its consistent action and diverse species.

The season opens in April with early sea trout. Guests of Eleven Experience can also pair their fishing with heli-skiing on the nearby Troll Peninsula—an option unique to this location. As summer settles in, Atlantic salmon enter the river, with peak weeks in July and August. By September, anglers can expect a mix of Atlantic salmon, sea trout, brown trout, and Arctic char, often within the same day. Salmon and sea trout typically range from 4 to 20 pounds.

Fishing access on the Húseyjarkvísl requires purchasing all three available rods. While guests are not obligated to use all rods, they remain reserved for a single party to ensure exclusive and uninterrupted access to the river.

Húsey

The Húsey is well suited to anglers who prefer switch or single-handed rods for salmon. A #7 switch rod and a #7 single-hander are recommended, especially for the upper canyon beats where smaller, more agile setups are particularly useful.

Typical Icelandic salmon patterns are used throughout the river, including small hitch flies, Sunray Shadows, and size 14 & 16 micro flies, all of which are effective in its clear, varied water.

The Husey is a wonderful small river for an intimate group of 3 anglers with comfortable accommodation.

It is not let with a guide, however guides can be provide we would recommend 1 guid for the party, with easy to read pools and good access this river is a fantastic place to explore as a group which doesn't come with the usual price tag of Icelandic salmon fishing.
